WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

This morning when I woke up, I asked God a question and as He sometimes does, He answered me right away. You see, I have been trying to get rid of something in my life for some time now. I purposely will not tell you what it is because I want you to plug in your own thing you are trying to get rid of in your life. Sometimes I do good and abstain.  Sometimes I just partake. I was doing so good last night, so I thought, and then it came across my path and I happily said yes, or more accurately, my flesh happily said yes again. So this morning, one of the first things I did was ask God, why did I say yes again. Why can't I stop partaking and just say no, and this is what God said to me: It is because you are not walking in the Spirit.

It always amazes me how God teaches me what He is trying to get me to see. A lot of His teachings lately have been about worship and praise, and this morning when He said, It is because you are not walking in the Spirit, I knew in my heart what God said was the grand finale of what He was trying to get me to see. While I am worshiping and praising Jesus, I am walking in the Spirit. While my mind is on Jesus and His Word, I am walking in the Spirit. You walk in the Spirit by continually, from the moment you get up until you go to bed, think about your Savior and His goodness towards you. Yes, you have many things to do, but your many things to do will never give you the power to overcome what you need to overcome. Remember the story about Martha and Mary? (Luke 10:38-41). Mary sat at Jesus' feet listening to His every word. Martha was busy with her many things. And here is what Jesus said to Martha, "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." You see, the many things you have to do are full of care and troubles, but spending time with Jesus is the good part and what you learn at Jesus' feet "shall not be taken away from" you.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26:3

So here's how you continually walk in the Spirit throughout your day. Start talking to Jesus the moment you get up in the morning. Then between your daily work continue to talk to Jesus. Thank Him for His goodness and His many blessings, praise Him, ask Him questions, tell Him what's on your mind, sing or hum hymns or Scripture songs. You can do this while you are walking to your car, or to the restroom, going to lunch, cooking dinner, making your bed. Whenever you find yourself alone, instead of talking to yourself or thinking about how upset someone made you or what you had for dinner last night, just talk to Jesus. That is walking in the Spirit.

You see, there is power when you are walk in the Spirit. The Bible says that God inhabits the praises of His people, so while you are praising Jesus, God is there. The power is God's power. Always be aware of God's presence in your life. Keep your thinking focused on Jesus. If you are walking in the Spirit, you are being led by God's Spirit. You cannot be led by the Spirit if you are walking in the flesh. I suppose you can say that walking in the flesh is thinking about everything but Jesus. Walking in the Spirit means you are tuned into the Spirit realm and you will easily be able to hear God's voice in your spirit.

"And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about." Luke 4:14
